Pioneer Offense Kept Quiet During Friday Doubleheader Sweep at #22 MACU

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The Pioneers were unable to get the offense rolling in Friday's doubleheader against 22nd ranked Mid-American Christian University (Okla.) as they were shutout in game one, 4-0, and fell short in game two, 6-1.

Wayland Baptist (17-16, 7-4 SAC) were able to get a runner on in the top of the 1st after a Samuel Fabian walk, but the Pioneers were unable to bring him around to score after hitting into an inning ending fielder's choice. The Evangels opened the scoring with two in the bottom of the 1st with two RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead early on.

After a scoreless second inning, the Pioneers got a two-out double, their only hit of the game, by Jan Rollon Jr, but the Pioneers followed the hit up with a strikeout and the threat was avoided by the Evangels. Wayland Baptist committed another error in the bottom of the 3rd that allowed an Evangel hitter to reach first, but a double play was smoothly turned by the Pioneers to end the frame and keep the score at 2-0.

Mid-America Christian knocked in another run in the bottom of the 5th, and one more in the bottom of the 6th to make it a 4-0 game heading into the final inning. Wayland Baptist went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th to end game, and they fell in game one, 4-0.

Wayland Baptist began game two by getting a first inning hit from Rollon Jr and an Arcadio Frausto walk, but a strikeout ended the scoring threat for the Pioneers and keeping the game scoreless. MACU once again opened the scoring as they scratched across three first inning runs on three hits and an error to take a 3-0 lead to the 2nd. The Evangels then scored one run in each of the next three innings to send a 6-0 game into the top of the 5th inning.

The Pioneers were able to score their first run of the afternoon in the top of the 5th after Hayden Ingram reached on a strike three passed ball, advanced on a William Flowers sacrifice bunt, and scored on an Evangel error to make it 6-1. The Pioneers created another scoring opportunity in the top of the 6th after Frausto singled to right and Cooper Jauz walked, but Wayland Baptist wasn't able to bring them in after a flyout and strikeout ended the frame. The Pioneers went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th to end game two and complete the Evangels sweep of Wayland Baptist in Friday's doubleheader, 6-1.

Branin Seibert made the game two start for the Pioneers, and he went 4 innings allowing 6 total runs, 3 earned runs, 6 hits, one walk, and 6 strikeouts.
