Gil-Franco, Seibert Throw 3-Hit Shutout to Open 3-game Series at Southwestern Christian

Bethany, Oklahoma – The Pioneers opened their 3-game road Sooner Athletic Conference series against Southwestern Christian University with a dominating 10-0, 8-inning run-rule victory.
 
After a couple of scoreless innings to being the ballgame, Wayland Baptist took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd after Riley Watson scored on a bases loaded balk by the Eagle's starting pitcher. A wild pitch brought Arcadio Frausto in to score to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Samuel Fabian capped off the explosive third inning for the Pioneers with an inside-the-park home run, his 13th home run on the season, to make it 4-0.
 
The Pioneers extended their lead to 6-0 in the top of the 4th after Cooper Jauz knocked in two runs after an error was committed by the Eagles. In the top of the 5th, Fabian drove in his second run of the day on an RBI single to left to score Claudio from third, making it 6-0, WBU. Three more runs came across to score for Wayland Baptist in the top of the 8th, starting with Hayden Ingram scrambling home on a wild pitch to make it 8-0. Jauz followed with a two-run single to right to extend it to 10-0 heading to the bottom of the 8th. The Eagles got two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the 8th, but Branin Seibert got a pop up to first base to seal the 10-0 run-rule victory for the Pioneers.
 
Fabian finished 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs, a walk, and a run scored. Jauz went 2 for 5 with a double and 3 RBIs. Johnson went 1 for 3 with two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base. Claudio finished 1 for 2 with two runs scored, two walks, and two stolen bases.
 
The Pioneer got outstanding pitching this afternoon from Juan Gil-Franco and Branin Seibert. Gil-Franco made the start for the Pioneers, and he threw six scoreless innings, only allowing 3 hits, 5 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Seibert threw two scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits, two walks, and striking out two Eagles. These two did a great job giving the Pioneers some solid innings, allowing the bullpen arms to get a needed day off with a doubleheader being played tomorrow.
 
First pitch for game one of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
