Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The Pioneers go scoreless over the two games in Saturday's doubleheader at 2
nd ranked Oklahoma City University to move to 12-12 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with three conference series remaining. The Pioneers took a 10-0 loss in game one and a 9-0 loss in game two this afternoon.
Wayland Baptist got the leadoff runner aboard in game one after
Reagan Davis was hit by a pitch, but after back-to-back strikeouts, she was caught stealing to end the frame. The Stars opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1
st after two runs scored after a couple of Pioneer defensive errors. OCU then got 3 runs in the bottom of the 2
nd after a solo home run and two RBI singles made it 5-0. The Pioneers gave up 5 more runs in the bottom of the 4
th after a few base hits and a two-run homer made it 10-0, OCU. Wayland Baptist went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 5
th to end game one with a 10-0 Pioneer defeat. The Pioneers had two base hits in game one, one each by
Berkley Bradley and
Madison Martinez.
Amber Poorbaugh made the start in game one for the Pioneers, and she allowed 8 earned runs over three innings of work with no walks and a strikeout.
Clarissa Rejino pitched an inning in relief, allowing one run, no walks, and one strikeout.
Wayland Baptist opened game two aggressively in the top of the 1
st by quickly getting a runner to scoring position after
Arianna Zubia smashed a double to center.
Mikayla Carrillo followed with a single that moved Zubia to third, but the Pioneers left them stranded on base for no runs. OCU scored in the bottom of the 1
st after an RBI single to center scored a runner from second to make it 1-0. OCU blew the game open in the bottom of the 3
rd after hitting two home runs including a two-run shot that made it 5-0 after three innings of play. Oklahoma City hit another home run in the bottom of the 4
th, this one being a 3-run homer, to make it 9-0. The Pioneers got a couple of runners on in the top of the 5
th after
Addy Rich and
Jenna Sepeda each singled to center field, but neither were able to cross home plate – ending game two at 9-0 in favor of #2 Oklahoma City University.
Addy Rich pitched game two for the Pioneers, and she allowed nine earned runs over her 4 innings of work with no walks and no strikeouts. Sepeda finished 2-3 with two singles. Zubia finished 1-3 with a double. Carrillo went 1-2 with a single. Bradley finished 1-2 with a base hit.
The Pioneers will return home to host Mid-America Christian University (Okla.) in a 4-game Sooner Athletic Conference series with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. First pitch for game one on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
