Plainview - The Pioneer men's soccer team dominated Dallas Christian College 6-1 Wednesday night and snapped a three game losing streak in the process.
WBU played suffocating defense against the Crusaders and used that momentum to attack aggressively on offense.Â
Francis Motsi scored the first of his two goals in the 12th minute, on an assist by
Dario Catalan. Motsi scored his second goal four minutes later on a penalty kick.
Rashawn Davis made it 3-0 Pioneers with a goal in the 40th minute. But, Wayland was not done yet in the first half.
Vito Zatikyan scored in the 44th minute and the Pioneers took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
The second half saw two more goals by the Pioneers.
Vito Zatikyan scored his second goal of the game in the 56th minute to give Wayland a 5-0 lead. Dallas Christian scored their lone goal in the 84th minute.
Dario Catalan gave the Pioneers their final margin of victory with his goal in the 87th minute.
Multiple defenders stood out for the Pioneers with their effort, including
Aaron Debus,
Elliott Idehen, and
Brais Gonzalez.
Offensively,
Francis Motsi led the way with four shots on goal and two goals.
Vito Zatikyan had three shots on goal along with two goals.
Dario Catalan and
Rashawn Davis were very efficient as they both scored a goal on their only shot on goal. Dario also added and assist as did
Jamol Williams who returned to play after missing several games with a lower leg injury.
Coach
Robert Ssejjemba provided the following comments after the victory, "I was very pleased to see many of our guys share the responsibility of scoring goals. Our week of building up to this game was full of new information so it was good to see some of this work come to life."
The next game for the  Pioneers is against Arlington Baptist University Friday, September 20 at 5:30 in Plainview.
