PLAINVIEW, TX -- Wayland Baptist men's soccer couldn't overcome an early deficit Tuesday afternoon, falling 3–1 to RV Southwestern Christian University in Sooner Athletic Conference play at JV Hilliard Field.
The visiting Eagles struck twice in the opening half to grab control of the match, finding the net in the 22nd and 27th minutes. Wayland (4–4–1, 1–2–1 SAC) battled to generate chances throughout, matching Southwestern Christian's 10 total shots, but couldn't find the breakthrough until late in the contest.
After trailing 3–0 early in the second half, the Pioneers found some momentum in the 76th minute. Senior defender
Aaron Debus buried his first goal of the season off an assist from
Dario Catalan, giving Wayland a spark of life and cutting into the deficit. Despite the push, including several late looks from
Francis Motsi and
Alfonso Hinojosa, the Eagles held firm defensively to close out the match.
Motsi led the Pioneers with four shots, while goalkeeper
Alex Neri recorded two saves in the 90-minute effort. Defensively, Wayland limited Southwestern Christian to just three second-half shots after allowing seven before the break.

Isaac Perez and
Juan Barrera, while both sides combined for 28 fouls.
