Pioneers Fall Short on the Road Against 1-Seed OCU in SAC Men's Soccer Semi-Finals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- Wayland Baptist's men's soccer saw their conference championship hopes fall short on Friday afternoon as the Pioneers dropped a 5–1 decision to 1-seed Oklahoma City University in the Sooner Athletic Conference Semi-Finals at Brian Harvey Field.

After falling behind early, the Pioneers showed fight throughout, generating 14 total shots – including nine in the second half – but couldn't overcome an early two-goal deficit.

Oklahoma City struck just 90 seconds into the match when Francisco Miquel headed in a cross from Harrison Knight, then added another from Miquel in the 8th minute to make it 2–0. Wayland began to settle in after that, earning a pair of corner kicks and several solid looks at goal, but trailed by two at halftime.

The Pioneers came out of the locker room with renewed energy and quickly got on the board. In the 46th minute, Jamol Williams scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season off an assist from Elliott Idehen to cut the deficit to 2–1.

However, OCU answered with three goals over the next 35 minutes – one each from Ethan Taylor, Knight, and Sage Trevino – to pull away.

Williams led Wayland with three shots, while Francis Motsi added five attempts and created several dangerous opportunities, including drawing a late penalty that went just wide in the 87th minute. Idehen contributed a pair of shots and the lone assist.

Wayland ended the season at 8–6–2, marking the program's best win total since 2021.
