Plainview –- The Pioneers got two outstanding pitching performances from
Tate House and
Branin Seibert to lift them to two wins over the Grizzlies of Adams State University. The Pioneers secured the 2-1 victory in game one, then followed that with a 2-0 shutout in game two.
GAME ONE
The Grizzlies opened the scoring in today's opener after a Pioneer error allowed a run to cross home and make it 1-0 in the top of the 2
nd. The Pioneers answered back quickly in their half of the 2
nd after senior
Delvis Claudio crushed a no-doubter to left to make it 1-1 – his 5
th home run on the year.
Senior
Brayden Peyton put the Pioneers ahead 2-1 after smoking a solo home run to left in the bottom of the 3
rd – making it two hits and two home runs for the Pioneer bats through three innings. This was Peyton's 2
nd home run on the season.
Tate House dominated the Grizzlies lineup through five innings and handed the ball to
Juan Gil-Franco, who promptly slammed the door on game one and sealed the 2-1 victory for Wayland Baptist.
House's final line showed: 5.0 innings, one unearned run, three walks, and six strikeouts. House secured the win and improved his record to 2-0 on the season, while continuing to maintain his 0.00 ERA over 7.1 innings so far this season. Gil-Franco notched his first save of the season after throwing 2.0 innings with no runs, no walks, and one strikeout.
GAME TWO
Game two featured another pitchers dual between the Pioneers and Grizzlies. In the bottom of the 3
rd, the Pioneer offense broke through for the first run of the ball game after
Cesar Ibarra drove in
Riley Watson with a beautiful squeeze bunt to make it 1-0.
Samuel Fabian put the Pioneers ahead 2-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the 4
th, and that would be all the scoring necessary for the Pioneers to secure the victory in game two.
Seibert continued his solid start to the 2025 season after throwing 5.0 scoreless innings, while only allowing two hits, five walks, and eight strikeouts. Seibert picked up the win to improve his record to 3-0 this season, and he now sports a 2.29 ERA across 19.2 innings.
Tyson Potts entered out of the Pioneer bullpen in the top of the 6
th, and he was terrific to earn the hold. Potts threw 3.0 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, four walk, and four strikeouts.
Christian Toledo earned his first save of the season after slamming the door on the Grizzlies in the 9
th – throwing the scoreless inning with no hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.

th beginning with a seven-inning game at 11:00 AM followed by a nine-inning game that's set to start 30 minutes after game one.
