Hobbs, New Mex. --- The Pioneers extended their winning streak to seven games on Tuesday afternoon after picking up a 19-6 midweek non-conference road win against the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest (NM).

Wayland Baptist jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1
st inning over the University of the Southwest (NM) after a Mustang error allowed
Felix Polanco to come around and score.

The Mustangs scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the 2
nd on a sacrifice fly, but the Pioneer offense did a lot of damage in the bottom of the 3
rd to take a commanding lead.

The big inning started with a Polanco RBI double that put the Pioneers ahead, 3-1.
Samuel Fabian tacked on a couple more runs with a two-run single that put the Pioneers in front, 5-1. Fabian later came across to score after
Sinclair Pimentel smoked an RBI single to make it 6-1. The five-run inning was capped off by an RBI single from
Christian Toledo that gave the Pioneers a 7-1 lead.

The Mustangs battled back to make it 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Pioneer offense erupted once again, this time for eight runs that pushed their lead out to ten.

Polanco started the inning with an RBI single to make it 8-5. Pimentel later drove in a pair with a two-run single that made it 10-5, WBU.
Brayden Peyton got involved in the action with a sacrifice fly that made it 11-5.
Riley Watson tacked on another run with an RBI single that gave the Pioneers a 12-5 lead. The massive blow in the inning was delivered by
Delvis Claudio, which was a three-run bomb – his 15
th home run of the season – that put the Pioneers ahead 15-5 after the top of the 6
th.

The Pioneer offense wasn't satisfied, so they added four more runs in the top of the 7
th thanks to a Peyton two-run double, and a
Christian Toledo two-run triple that gave them a 19-5 lead.

The Mustangs added one run in the bottom of the 7
th, but their deficit was far too great to overcome as the Pioneers dominated for a 19-6 victory – their 7
th straight win. With the win, the Pioneers now own a 21-13 overall record and 11-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

Claudio finished today's game going 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, three RBIs, a stolen base, a walk, and three runs scored. Toledo went 2 for 3 a triple, three RBIs, a walk, and a run scored. Peyton went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Pimentel went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a hit by pitch. Polanco finished 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs, two stolen bases, a hit by pitch, and three runs scored.

The Pioneers will travel to Waxahachie, Texas for a three-game road series against the Lions of Nelson University beginning Friday, March 28
th. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, and game one is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
