Chickasha, Okla. --- Wayland Baptist dropped the opening game of the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Championships 8-0 to 1-seed and #1 ranked Science & Arts (Okla.), but they responded nicely for a 6-0 win in an elimination game against Texas Wesleyan to keep their hopes alive.

Game One vs. 1-seed Science & Arts (Okla.)

The Pioneers were only able to record one hit in the opener, a fourth inning lead-off single from Arianna Zubia.

With the loss, the Pioneers would have to face the loser of (4) Texas Wesleyan vs. (5) Oklahoma Panhandle State, which (4) Texas Wesleyan fell short.

Poorbaugh caused more damage in the top of the 3rd with another single that scored two runs to increase the Pioneer advantage to 3-0. Two batters later, Abcde Garcia drove in Poorbaugh with an RBI single to make it 4-0, WBU. Makayla Sanchez capped off the big inning with an RBI double to left that put the Pioneers ahead 5-0.
