PLAINVIEW, TX – The Pioneers men's soccer team continued their impressive start to the season on Saturday, delivering a dominant 3-1 victory over Ecclesia College at home. The win pushes the Pioneers' season record to a strong 4-1-0.
The Pioneers asserted their authority early, establishing a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half. Forward
Renato Katrip opened the scoring in the 13th minute with his first goal of the season, putting the Pioneers on the board. Just over 11 minutes later,
Jamol Williams found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, extending Wayland's lead. Williams wasn't done yet, striking again in the 33rd minute, this time assisted by
Francis Motsi, marking his fifth goal in just three matches this season and solidifying the first half advantage.
Wayland's defense and midfield were equally impressive, stifling Ecclesia's offensive efforts. The Pioneers outshot the Royals 12-2 in the first half and maintained a significant advantage throughout the game, ending with 18 shots to Ecclesia's 7. Goalkeeper
Alex Neri, despite a late Ecclesia goal, secured two saves and managed to keep the Royals at bay for the majority of the match.
While Ecclesia managed to pull one back in the dying minutes of the game with a goal from Angel Portillo, it was a mere consolation as the Pioneers firmly held on for the well-deserved win.
Looking ahead, the Pioneers will continue their preparations for conference play with a scrimmage on Monday, September 15th, against Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas at 5:00 PM.
