SAN ANTONIO --- Wayland Baptist baseball wrapped up its Saturday doubleheader against Our Lady of the Lake with a split, dropping a tight opener before bouncing back with a strong pitching performance to take the nightcap.
Â
Game One – Our Lady of the Lake 4, Wayland Baptist 2
Wayland Baptist jumped out early in the opener but was unable to overcome a four-run second inning as the Pioneers fell 4–2 in seven innings.
After surrendering a run in the bottom of the first, Wayland responded quickly in the second. RBI singles from
Raphael Beltre and
Edgard Bermudez gave Wayland a 2–1 lead and showcased the team's ability to apply pressure offensively. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Our Lady of the Lake capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues to plate three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Starter
Tate House settled in after the rough second, working six innings and keeping the Saints off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Wayland threatened multiple times late but was held to five hits in the contest, leaving the tying run on base in the final frame.

Game Two – Wayland Baptist 3, Our Lady of the Lake 1
The Pioneers answered in game two behind a complete-game effort from
Branin Seibert, earning a 3–1 victory to secure the split.
Wayland struck first in the second inning when
Arcadio Martinez launched a two-run home run down the right-field line, putting the Pioneers ahead 2–0. The Saints trimmed the lead to one in the third, but that would be the only run allowed by Seibert, who was dominant from start to finish.
Wayland added an insurance run in the fourth inning as Bermudez delivered an RBI double, scoring
Ben Kasparie. From there, Seibert took over, scattering six hits over seven innings while striking out eight and stranding 10 runners to close out the win.
The Pioneers played through defensive adversity but made key plays when needed, highlighted by timely pitching and situational hitting to finish the day on a high note.
