OKLAHOMA CITY --- The 3-seed Pioneers opened the 2026 Athletics Solutions SAC Men's Basketball Championships with a dominant 89-46 win over 6-seed Mid-America Christian in the quarterfinals behind 51 combined points from seniors
Jamari Lawrence and
Marcus Green.
Wayland Baptist was efficient offensively, finishing the night with a solid shooting percentage from the field while knocking down key shots from beyond the arc. The Pioneers connected on 13 three-pointers and were effective attacking the paint, leading to a balanced scoring distribution across the roster.
Lawrence led the way was Wayland's top scorer, pouring in a 30 points while shooting efficiently from the floor (12-17 from the floor and 6-10 from three), grabbing 7 boards, and dishing 6 assists.
 He was joined in double figures by Green and
Chuks Ejiofor, highlighting the Pioneers' depth and offensive versatility.
Green notched 21 points while shooting 60% from the floor and 3-6 from deep. Ejiofor added 10 points and shot a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Â

Wayland also shared the basketball well, finishing with an impressive 15 assists, and displaying unselfish play and strong ball movement throughout the contest.
On the glass, the Pioneers were dominant on both ends, finishing with 50 total rebounds (13 offensive). Wayland secured key defensive boards to limit second-chance opportunities while also collecting offensive rebounds that translated into valuable second-chance points. The team's physical presence inside was a major factor in keeping the game tight statistically.
Defensively, Wayland forced turnovers and turned those opportunities into points on the other end. The Pioneers recorded multiple steals and added timely blocked shots, demonstrating their activity and intensity in a high-stakes postseason environment.
In particular, Ejiofor showed tremendous anticipation and athleticism in the paint as recorded five blocks.
Julian Perez and Green made life difficult for the Evangel guards, combining for 7 steals.
At the free-throw line, Wayland capitalized on its chances, converting 14-15 to keep pace throughout the game. The Pioneers' composure at the stripe underscored their poise under tournament pressure.
With the win, the Pioneers will now take on 2-seed Langston in the Athletic Solutions SAC Men's Basketball Semi-Final matchup on Friday, February 27
th, at 2:00 PM in Oklahoma City at Abe Lemons Arena.
