WAXAHACHIE, TX. --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers put together a complete day on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader against Nelson (Texas) with a 3-2 victory in Game 1 and a 3-0 shutout in Game 2.

Game 1: Wayland Baptist 3, Nelson 2
Wayland Baptist opened the day with a hard-fought win, using clutch hitting and a complete-game effort in the circle to edge Nelson.
The Pioneers struck first in the opening inning when
Berkley Bradley delivered an RBI single to bring home
Mikayla Carrillo. After Nelson tied the game in the fourth, Wayland responded in the fifth inning with the decisive rally.
Kynleigh Kirby sparked the offense with an RBI triple, scoring Carrillo to give the Pioneers the lead. Moments later, a passed ball allowed
Lia Lozano to cross the plate, extending the advantage to 3-1.
Kirby was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs on seven hits and striking out three. She worked out of several jams, including a key stand in the seventh to secure the win.
At the plate, Kirby also led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Bradley added two hits and a run driven in. Carrillo scored twice as the Pioneers totaled seven hits in the game.

Game 2: Wayland Baptist 3, Nelson 0
The Pioneers carried their momentum into Game 2, jumping out early and riding another stellar pitching performance to complete the sweep.
Wayland wasted no time, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Reagan Davis-Pena opened the game with a hit and later came around to score, while
Brooke McLaurin and
Berkley Bradley each drove in runs to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
An insurance run came in the fifth inning when Davis-Pena delivered an RBI single to score
Brianna Cloud, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Logan Schultz was outstanding in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just five hits while striking out one and walking two, consistently keeping Nelson off balance.
Davis led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Carrillo and Cloud each added hits as Wayland finished with six total.

The Pioneers will complete this four-game road series at Nelson on Saturday, March 21
