OKLAHOMA CITY --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers faced a tough road test on Monday afternoon, dropping both games of a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader to #3 Oklahoma City at Ann Lacy Stadium. Despite strong moments at the plate in both contests, timely offense by the Stars proved decisive as Wayland fell 9-1 in game one and 9-2 in game two.

Game 1: Oklahoma City 9, Wayland Baptist 1
The Pioneers recorded four hits in the opener but were unable to overcome a big offensive inning from Oklahoma City.
Wayland Baptist threatened early in the first inning when Reagan Davis drew a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by
Mikayla Carrillo. However, the Stars escaped the frame without allowing a run.
Oklahoma City took control in the bottom of the second inning. A solo home run by Analise Rayburn opened the scoring before Kaiden Spidell added a two-run homer later in the inning, giving the Stars a 3-0 lead.
The Pioneers responded in the fourth inning with their lone run of the game. Carrillo started the rally with a double to center field, and
Kynleigh Kirby followed with a single to put runners on the corners.
Brooke McLaurin then delivered an RBI single to right field to score Carrillo and cut the deficit to 4-1.
Wayland continued to apply pressure in the inning as
Yaneli Jaramillo added a single to load the bases, but Oklahoma City worked out of the jam to limit the damage.
The Stars broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs on four hits to extend their lead to 9-1.
Carrillo led the Pioneers offensively with a double and a run scored, while Kirby, McLaurin, and Jaramillo each added a hit.
Brooklyn Ray took the loss in the circle, allowing nine runs (six earned) over 3.1 innings, while
Erin Trevino provided relief work.

Game 2: Oklahoma City 9, Wayland Baptist 2
Wayland Baptist produced more offense in the second game with seven hits, but Oklahoma City again capitalized on early scoring opportunities.
The Stars jumped out quickly in the first inning when Rayburn launched a three-run home run to put the Pioneers behind 3-0. Oklahoma City added another run in the second inning to build a 4-0 advantage.
The Pioneers broke through in the fourth inning.
Berkley Bradley singled and later scored when
Yaneli Jaramillo tripled to right-center field, bringing Wayland within three runs at 4-1.
Jaramillo continued her strong performance at the plate throughout the game. The sophomore went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including an RBI double in the sixth inning that scored Bradley to make it 7-2.
Bradley also contributed offensively with a hit, a walk, and two runs scored, while
Kailee Sanchez collected two hits and
Mikayla Carrillo added another.
In the circle,
Kynleigh Kirby started and took the loss after allowing four runs in two innings.
Logan Schultz pitched three innings in relief and struck out one, while
Erin Trevino closed out the game with a scoreless inning.

The Pioneers will look to get back in the win column this weekend when they host Mid-America Christian for a four-game series in Plainview. The two teams will open the series with a doubleheader on Friday, March 13
th, with Game One scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM.
