Pioneers Pick Up Midweek Sweep of Arlington Baptist to Cap Off 2026 Home Schedule

PLAINVIEW -- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers delivered a dominant showing on Monday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Arlington Baptist with a pair of high-powered offensive performances, winning 12-7 in Game One and 13-4 in Game Two.

GAME ONE: Pioneers Respond Early, Pull Away Late in 12-7 Win

After surrendering six runs in the top of the second inning, the Pioneers wasted no time answering the call, using a six-run bottom of the first to seize early momentum and never look back.

Wayland Baptist pounded out 14 hits in the opener, highlighted by multi-hit performances across the lineup. Edgard Bermudez sparked the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Arcadio Martinez and Rafaeleduardo Garcia combined for six hits and five RBIs. Garcia delivered a clutch two-run double in the fourth to give the Pioneers the lead for good.

Despite the Patriot's early push, the Pioneers' pitching staff settled in. Johnathon Brzezicki earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, shutting down momentum in the middle frames.

Wayland added insurance down the stretch, including home runs from Adrian Lara and Bermudez, extending the lead to secure the 12-7 victory.

GAME TWO: Offensive Explosion Completes the Sweep, 13-4

The Pioneers carried that momentum straight into Game Two, exploding for 13 runs on 11 hits in a commanding run-rule-style victory.

Wayland jumped out early with two runs in the first, then broke the game open with a five-run second inning and a three-run third. Adonis Bernal led the charge with a monster performance, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs.

Adrian Lara stayed hot at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while Ricky Ruiz added a two-run homer to fuel the offensive surge.

On the mound, the Pioneers showcased depth and control. Austin Cole picked up the win in relief, while the bullpen combined to allow just one hit over the final four innings, striking out eight and silencing the Patriot's offense.
