Pioneers Sweep Saturday Doubleheader at Langston to Split Series

Langston, Okla. --- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers put together a complete day on both sides of the ball Saturday, sweeping a road doubleheader over Langston with a 10-6 victory in game one and a 6-3 win in game two.

GAME ONE: WAYLAND BAPTIST 10, LANGSTON 6

Wayland Baptist wasted no time setting the tone, plating three runs in the opening inning and never surrendering control despite a mid-game push from Langston.

The Pioneers' offense was relentless, racking up 13 hits, highlighted by a dominant performance from Yaneli Jaramillo. The freshman went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three doubles, powering the Wayland attack throughout the afternoon.

Reagan Davis-Pena and Mikayla Carrillo each scored three runs at the top of the order, while Berkley Bradley added three hits and two RBIs of her own. Wayland built an early 4-0 lead before Langston answered with a four-run third inning to even the score.

After reclaiming a 5-4 advantage in the fourth, the Pioneers delivered the decisive blow in the sixth inning. A four-run frame—sparked by Jaramillo's two-run double and capped by extra-base hits from Mikenzi Carlo and timely situational hitting—extended the lead to 9-5 and gave Wayland breathing room.

In the circle, Isabella Penk earned the win in relief, tossing three innings and limiting the damage late after Langston threatened. Brooklyn Ray made the start, working through the early innings before handing things off.

Wayland added an insurance run in the seventh and closed the door defensively to secure the 10-6 victory.

GAME TWO: WAYLAND BAPTIST 6, LANGSTON 3

The Pioneers carried their momentum into game two, using a big second inning and a strong pitching performance from Kynleigh Kirby to complete the sweep.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Wayland responded emphatically in the second inning with four runs. Mikayla Carrillo delivered the key swing of the frame, driving in three runs with a clutch double to give the Pioneers a 4-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Wayland continued to apply pressure throughout the game, adding a run in the fifth and another in the seventh. Berkley Bradley contributed a pair of hits and an RBI, while Kailee Sanchez added two hits and a run scored.

Kirby was outstanding in the circle, going the distance to earn the win. The right-hander allowed just three runs on seven hits while working around five walks, keeping Langston from building any sustained rallies.

Defensively, the Pioneers were steady behind her, turning a double play and limiting mistakes to keep Langston at bay down the stretch.
