ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Wayland Baptist University men's soccer team fell 3-1 to Concordia University Texas on Thursday night at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex after the match was halted in the 75th minute because of a lightning delay.

The Pioneers (0-1-1) battled throughout the contest but were unable to overcome a three-goal first-half performance from the Tornados.

Concordia struck first in the 16th minute when Enoch Morebise found the back of the net off an assist from Edmond Elone, giving the Tornados an early 1-0 advantage.

The Tornados added to their lead in the 31st minute when Lorenzo Maule scored off assists from Elone and Morebise. Wayland answered just over four minutes later as Lorian Aerts scored in the 36th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Concordia restored its two-goal advantage shortly before halftime when Maule scored his second goal of the night in the 42nd minute, with Joseph Perez and Steven Dolan credited with assists. The Tornados carried a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Wayland continued to pressure Concordia after the break. The Pioneers recorded four second-half shots, including attempts from Aerts, Felipe Dos Santos and Evan Schumacher, but were unable to find the back of the net. Aerts finished the night with a team-high three shots on goal, while Renato Katrip also recorded three shots on goal.

The Pioneers finished with 11 total shots, putting 10 on frame, while Concordia recorded 19 shots with eight on goal. Wayland also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Benjamin Godard started in goal for Wayland and recorded three saves during the first half. Drew Arehart played the second half and added one save.

The match was ultimately stopped at 74:32 due to a lightning delay, ending the contest with Concordia holding a 3-1 lead.

Wayland Baptist will look to bounce back Saturday, Aug. 29, when the Pioneers travel to Huston-Tillotson University for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
