LUBBOCK, Texas – The Wayland Baptist University men's cross country team continued its 2026 season Friday at the Texas Tech Open, competing in a deep 8K field at the Lubbock Christian University Cross Country Course.
Four Pioneers completed the 8K race for Wayland, with Ryder Robison leading the way for the second consecutive meet. Robison finished 83rd overall with a time of 27:48.6, averaging 5:35.6 per mile.
Freshman Israel Esparza was the next Pioneer across the finish line, placing 113th overall in 28:38.2. Esparza averaged 5:45.6 per mile over the 8K course.
Wayland's Diego Castaneda crossed the line in 161st place, finishing in 32:07.5, while Alex Naranjo followed immediately behind in 162nd place with a time of 32:21.4.
The Texas Tech Open featured a large field that included NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NAIA and junior college competition. A total of 176 runners completed the men's 8K.
With four runners recording finishes, Wayland did not have the five finishers required to record a team score.
The Texas Tech Open marked Wayland's second consecutive 8K competition after racing at the NMJC Dr. Steve McCleery Invitational one week earlier.
