Kolodziejczyk was dominating inside force
Lisa Kolodziejczyk came to Wayland Baptist in August 1989 from Industrial High School where she had an outstanding high school career.
One of three freshmen to make the 1989-90 Flying Queens’ varsity roster, early reports were that Kolodziejczyk was expected to battle for the starting post position, and she earned that spot at the Christmas break. Kolodziejczyk finished the season with a team-high 631 points and was the rebounding leader with an average of 8.6 boards. She was named AWSF National Freshman of the Year and Freshmen All-American, earned 1st team NAIA All-District 8 and District Freshman of the Year honors, and was a three-time District 8 Player of the Week.
Kolodziejczyk, who grew an inch during the off-season, began her sophomore year in the same dominating fashion as the year before. She was averaging 15.5 points and 7.8 rebounds when a knee injury prematurely ended her season after just 12 games.
The 1991-92 Flying Queens had a record of 29-6 and fell one win short of a national championship, losing to Arkansas Tech in the title game. Kolodziejczyk had a monster post-season for the Wayland women, averaging almost 22 points a game during the national tournament. She was named to the NAIA All-Tournament team, one of five all-tournament team honors she received during the year.
The 27th member of the Queens’ 1,000 Point Club, Kolodziejczyk finished her junior season second on the team in scoring with a 16-point average, and was the team’s leading rebounder. She was named AWSF and NAIA All-American, and was the recipient of the Marsha Hutcherson George Endowment and the Claude Hutcherson Endowment.
Kolodziejczyk wrapped up her Flying Queens’ career with another trip to the NAIA Championship Tournament. She was once again honored as an AWSF and NAIA All-American, and was named as a Kodak Honorable Mention All-American, as well as earning 1st team NAIA All-District 8 honors.
At the time of her induction, Kolodziejczyk, the 1993 Roscoe Snyder Award winner as the top female athlete at Wayland, was sixth in WBU career scoring with 1,838 points. She held the record for most free throws made and attempted during a game, hitting 21 of 23 against Western New Mexico University in January 1993.
Kolodziejczyk graduated from Wayland in May 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
