Miller found many avenues to aid Wayland athletics
Marlin Miller has been involved with Wayland Baptist athletics in one form or anther since 1951. He was a member of the Pioneer junior varsity basketball team and worked as Sports Information Director from 1951-1953, as well as serving as sports editor of both the yearbook and student newspaper. From 1960-1970, Miller was the official scorekeeper at both Pioneer and Flying Queen home games. He is a long time member of the Pioneer Cager Club and the Queen's Court, as well as the Pioneer baseball team's Going the Distance Club. Miller is a regular spectator at WBU athletic events, whether it is cross-country and volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball and track and field in the spring.
A 1953 graduate of Wayland with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Miller spent two years in the United States Army before returning home in 1956 to help operate the family business. During the late 1950's, he worked toward a master's degree in journalism at Texas Tech University, where he served as Assistant Sports Information Director during the 1958-59 school term.
From 1959 until 1981, Miller served as owner of Miller Flying Service. At the time of his induction, he remained as office manager and was also Vice President of the business his father started more than 60 years earlier.
Miller, who served as president of the Wayland Ex-Students Association from 1973-77, has two daughters, Marla Hartman and Michelle Crumley, and three granddaughters.
