Cody Burkhalter arrived at Wayland Baptist in the fall of 2023 currently oversees the Strength and Conditioning / Human Performance of the Pioneer Baseball team. He is also the head coach of the JV Navy team. He is responsible for programming workouts, throwing programs, plyo programs and band routines. Burkhalter works closely with the pitchers to ensure their bodies have proper amount of rest as well as managing work load and volume throughout the week to keep bodies feeling fresh.
Previous experience to WBU includes 2 seasons at Arlington Baptist working under former longtime Pioneer head coach Brad Bass. At Arlington, Burkhalter was overseeing the Strength and Conditioning program for the baseball team as well as the head coach of the NCBA team. Spring of 2023, Burkhalter led the NCBA Patriots to a Regional Championship as well as finishing the year as Conference Champions. As the Assistant Coach of the NCCAA team, Burkhalter, Bass and other assistant coach Boston Mcintire, led that team to a regional tournament and ended the year 1st in the conference while finishing top 8 in the nation for NCCAA.
He also spent 1 year overseeing the Strength and Conditioning program for high school athletes from Fielders Choice Baseball Academy and the youth teams for the North Texas Trailblazers. He has trained athletes from the youth level all the way to the professional level.
Burkhalter graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Arlington Baptist and is currently finishing his masters in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning. He is currently a certified personal trainer and is currently working towards getting his CSCS.
Coach Burkhalter said, “My number one goal is to prepare athletes for their sport and help reduce the risk of injury while improving their performance on the field. Everything we do has to be transferable to the field. I encourage my players to ask me the whys to everything that we do. I need to be able to tell my players specifically why we do the things that we do, how it is going to help their on field performance and help reduce their injury risk on the field.”
Cody was born and raised in Fort Worth Texas before moving to Plainview Texas.
