Alex Castaneda enters his third season as the head women's soccer coach after joining the Wayland Baptist men's soccer staff as assistant coach in the summer of 2023.

Castaneda worked the 2022 season as assistant coach at Lyon College (Ark.), where he served as varsity goalkeeper coach and head coach for the men's JV team. Before that, he served as a volunteer coach for men's and women's soccer at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois University; an assistant coach at Charleston High School in Illinois; and the head coach of Eastern Illinois Football Club.

Since taking over the Wayland Baptist women's program, Castaneda has led the program to a conference tournament berth, an NCCAA Central Regional Championship, and an NCCAA National Tournament appearance, marking the first national tournament appearance in school history. The program also produced an NCAA All-Region selection.

During his time with the Wayland Baptist men's soccer team, Castaneda helped guide the program to back-to-back NCCAA Central Region Championships and two consecutive NCCAA National Tournament appearances. The program also produced All-Conference goalkeepers during his tenure.

Castaneda has also served as athletic director of team sports at Lake of the Woods and Greenwoods Camp, while coaching at a youth academy and a high school soccer camp.

Castaneda earned his Bachelor of Science degree in recreation administration from EIU in 2020 and his Master of Science in Sports Administration from EIU in 2022.
