Named WBU's first-ever swimming and diving coach in February 2013, Alyson Edoff Hannan was a 12-time all-American swimmer at Drury University (Mo.). She came to Wayland from Hendrix College (Ark.) where she was an assistant coach from 2009-2012 and the interim head coach for the 2012-13 season. At Hendrix, Hannan helped coach the Warriors to three NCAA National B cuts. Her teams also broke 40 school records and had multiple top-5 individual finishes within the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Southern Athletic Association Conference.

Prior to coaching at Hendrix College, Hannan was the head swimming and diving coach at Troy High School in Fullerton, Calif., in 2008. While at Troy, she guided both men’s and women’s teams to back-to-back league titles and finished her high school coaching career with a 24-0 women’s record and 23-1 men’s record.
In her first year of coaching at Wayland, Hannan led the Pioneers to tremendous success in just their first season. The men's team had an dual record of 3-2, and finished eighth at the NAIA Championships. The women's team picked up their first dual win against Austin College on Jan. 10, 2014, and finished 16th at the NAIA Championships, giving the Pioneers a combined team ranking of 15th in their first season.

Alyson started her coaching career with the Fullerton Aquatic Swim Team (FAST). While there, she accredits her knowledge and skill to her mentor, Kevin Perry. At FAST, Hannan helped develop and coach swimmers to top finishes in Junior Olympics and assisted with the development of senior and junior national level swimmers, including national team member and Olympic hopeful, Tyler Clary. Hannan instilled the importance of a college education to her club teams and now has athletes at Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Utah State, Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins and USC.

During her collegiate swimming career, Hannan was a top national competitor at Drury University in Springfield, Mo. She was a 12-time NCAA Division II All-American and top finisher in the 200-meter freestyle her senior year. Hannan also was the record holder in the 200 free for Drury. Not only did she experience individual success while at Drury, but hers was one of the top teams in the country. Drury was national runner-up in 2001 and 2002 during Hannan’s time there.

Coach Hannan earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports Management from Drury in the spring of 2002. In 2011, she completed her Master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University (Calif.). She married her husband, James, in 2007.
