Doug Galyean comes to Wayland in a dual role, serving as an assistant Sports Communications Director and assistant men’s basketball coach. He has 40 years of experience as a head basketball coach, 36 years in the high school ranks and 4 years at the junior college level.

Galyean has been very active in professional organizations throughout his career. He served two terms on the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Board of Directors and chaired several committees. Galyean also served on the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Basketball Advisory Committee and was selected as a mentor in the THSCA ROCK Mentoring program.

Galyean has extensive experience as a basketball camp director and clinic organizer.

His teams have made 28 playoff appearances, won 10 district championships, and made 5 regional tournament appearances on the way to winning 736 games.

He and his wife Gayla have been married 38 years. They have 4 children (Kacie, Blake, Clint & Grady), 3 granddaughters (Reese, Everly & Blair) and 1 grandson (Brady).
