Jason Herchek enters his second year as an assistant coach on the Wayland Baptist University football staff.
Herchek joined Wayland after serving as the offensive coordinator at Wadsworth High School. During his time at Wadsworth, he helped lead the program to consecutive Suburban League championships and deep playoff runs. In 2023, Wadsworth advanced to the second round of the playoffs while producing a second-team All-Ohio quarterback and Suburban League Offensive Player of the Year, along with nine combined first- and second-team All-League selections. In 2024, the team advanced to the third round of the playoffs and averaged 37.5 points per game while producing more than 5,000 total offensive yards.
Herchek previously served as the wide receivers coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University from 2021-22, coaching both a first-team and second-team All-Conference receiver.
He began his collegiate coaching career at the University of Akron, serving as a student assistant with the offensive line from 2014-17 before becoming a graduate assistant working with the wide receivers in 2018. During his time at Akron, the Zips recorded the most Division I wins in program history in 2015 and captured the first bowl victory in program history at the Idaho Potato Bowl. Akron also reached the MAC Championship in 2017 and defeated Big Ten opponent Northwestern in 2018 before making an appearance in the Boca Raton Bowl.
In his first season at Wayland in 2025, Herchek served as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, helping the Pioneers tie the program record for wins with six. The offense set school records for points in a game (73), touchdowns in a game (10) and rushing yards in a game (385). Wayland ranked among the nation's top 10 in red-zone percentage (93%) and top 20 in scoring offense (40 points per game) and rushing offense (190 yards per game). Herchek also helped coach a second-team All-American wide receiver and a first-team All-Conference wide receiver.
Herchek earned his master's degree in education from the University of Akron.
Herchek and his wife, Rebecca, have one daughter, Bennett.
