The men’s cross country program produced its second-ever national champion when Benard Keter topped a field of 320 runners at the NAIA National Championships at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence, Kan. Just a sophomore, Keter, of Nakuru, Kenya, completed the 8K course in 24 minutes, 36.40 seconds to win by just under five seconds. “This is a great accomplishment,” coach Brian Whitlock said. "Benard has trained really hard and worked really hard and deserves to win.” As a team, the Pioneers, ranked 18th going into the meet, finished in 25th place out of 36 schools. Other runners for WBU were senior Damarius Lowery (137th, 26:46), freshman Jason Rowe (222nd, 27:29), junior Ulisses Lopez (259th, 28:06), sophomore Cameron Woodberry (293rd, 28:57), freshman Randy Borden (297th, 29:11) and freshman Diego Gomez (312th, 31:15). The men were ranked 25th in the final NAIA poll.
