The latest achievement for Tamyra is earning a spot on the 2017 U.S. Senior World Team after finishing in first place at 69 kg/152 pounds at the Women’s World Team Trials in Las Vegas. After winning twice to get to the finals, Tamyra, a fifth-year senior from Katy, faced two-time Olympian and seven-time World Team member Elena Pirozhkova, whom she had never beaten. She did this time in a two-match sweep, snapping Pirozhkova's streak of nine straight U.S. World and Olympic teams. The win qualified Tamyra, a two-time WCWA national champion and 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials champion, to compete at the World Championships in Paris. Two days later on Sunday evening, Tamyra was named winner of the Roy McClung Award as Wayland’s top female senior student-athlete.
