Box Score Shawnee, Okla.---The Pioneers continued their struggles at St. Gregory's, falling 65-63 Thursday evening. It is the second straight year that the WBU men have lost on the road to the Cavaliers.
The Pioneers fell behind early, trailing at the break by a score of 37-30. Poor shooting in the first half was part of the problem as the WBU men hit just 12 of their 31 field goal attempts, and were five of eight from the charity stripe. The home team, on the other hand, hit 56 percent from the field in the opening period, and missed just one of five from the free throw line.
Fortunes changed somewhat in the second half with the Cavaliers cooling off to a more modest 39 percent shooting, but the Pioneers only improved to 43 percent. Neither team took advantage of their free throw opportunities, hitting just four of nine attempts each.
Teddy Chambers picked up his sixth double-double of the year for Wayland, hauling down 12 boards to go with his game-high 21 points. Rene Farias came off the bench to put in 11 points, and Johnny Terra contributed ten. Tyrone Crawford passed out a team-leading four assists.
The WBU men fall now to 11-5 on the season and 3-5 in conference play, while St. Gregory's improved to 2-12 and 1-7 in the SAC.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday afternoon at Oklahoma Baptist University. That game can be heard on the internet at www.obubison.com beginning at 3 p.m.
