Oklahoma City, Okla.---The Wayland Baptist soccer teams suffered a pair of losses against Oklahoma City University on Monday afternoon with the Pioneer women falling 8-0 and the WBU men dropping a 7-0 decision to the 12th-ranked Stars.
In the women's match, the Stars (7-4-1, 4-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the 38 minute mark on a hat trick by Sarah Leonard, who has scored 14 goals so far this season. After being shut down throughout the first period, the Pioneers (3-10-1, 1-5-1) came back to get six shots in the final stanza. Jessica Hershon, Jenee Norris and Jenessa Hunter each got a shot on goal in the second half.
The WBU men fell down by five in the opening period. OCU, which is 12-2-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play, got 18 of its 26 shots in the first 45 minutes. Colton Givens and T.J. Nolan each had a shot on goal.
Both Wayland teams have a chance to get back on the right track on Saturday in Shawnee, Okla. when they take on St. Gregory's. The SGU women are 3-8-1 on the season and 0-4 in conference play, while the Cavalier men are 4-9 overall and 0-5 in the SAC.
