Shawnee, Okla.---The Wayland Baptist soccer teams lost a double-header against St. Gregory's on Saturday afternoon with the women falling 2-1 in overtime, while the young Pioneer men fell 9-0 to the Cavaliers.
Sophomore Brittany Johnson scored her third goal of the season at the 31:56 mark to give the Wayland women a 1-0 lead at the intermission. Stephanie Coronado got the assist.
SGU came back with a goal eight minutes into the second period to tie it up, then scored the game-winner with just over three minutes left in the extra period.
The Pioneers outshot the Lady Cavs 17-5. Freshman Michelle Enriquez recorded a game-high five shots, two of which were on goal. Amber Perez, who has been out with a stress fracture in her foot, came back to put both of her shots on goal.
Junior Kylie Middleton played the entire game in goal for the WBU women.
In the men's contest, St. Greg's put up three goals in the opening period and six more in the second half for the victory.
The Pioneers got ten shots in the contest, led by Colten Givens with three. Luis De La Cruz came off the bench to get two shots, as did senior T.J. Nolen. Wayland had six shots on goal, one each by Cole Stutz, Givens, Trevor Burkhead, De La Cruz, Nolen and Jose Gonzalez.
