Box Score A late second half rally by the visitors from John Brown University led to a 76-68 victory over the Pioneers. Johnny Terra led the WBU men with 14 points in the game.
The Pioneers trailed 14-6 midway through the first period on Saturday, but two three-pointers by Josh Teague were the highlights of a 15-5 run that put Wayland on top 21-19.
WBU, which was up by as many as seven a couple of times in the second half, seemed to run out of steam down the stretch. The Golden Eagles took the lead for good at the four minute mark, 61-60. They held on by hitting six of their ten free throw attempts down the stretch.
Teddy Chambers joined Terra in double figures with 13 points, and Tyrone Crawford was credited with 10 points and a game-high six assists.
Both teams shot the ball well in the game. The Pioneers hit 50 percent of their shots from the field, while JBU was good on 53 percent of its field goal attempts. John Brown won the battle of the boards, 36-22, and outscored the smaller Pioneers 38-30 in the paint.
Wayland (12-9, 4-9) will try to get back on the winning track Thursday when the Pioneers host Mid-America Christian University at 8 p.m.
