WBU, held to a season-low 19 points in the first half, trailed by ten at the intermission. Northwestern Oklahoma opened the second half with a 12-4 run and eventually went up 50-28, but the Wayland men finished with a flurry, outscoring the Rangers 10-2 down the stretch to close the final gap to 12.
Teddy Chambers posted his tenth double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. The 6-5 junior from Odessa, Tex. hit seven of his ten shots from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He also blocked two shots in almost 32 minutes of playing time.
The Rangers held WBU to 39 percent shooting, and converted 20 Pioneer turnovers into 18 points. Wayland did win the battle of the boards, 33-25, and shot a season-best 87.5 percent from the free throw line, hitting 14 of their 16 attempts, including 11-for-11 in the final period.
Tyrone Crawford, the SAC's leader in assists, handed out a game-high four assists and was credited with three steals.
Next up is a date on Saturday afternoon with Oklahoma Christian University at 3 p.m. The Eagles (17-8, 10-7) were 78-63 winners over Lubbock Christian on Thursday. WBU is now 14-11 overall and 6-11 in conference play.
