Box Score Oklahoma City, Okla.---The Wayland Baptist Pioneers scored the first eight points of the game, but eventually fell to Mid-America Christian University 87-72 Saturday evening at Gaulke Activity Center. Rishi Kakad led the Pioneers with 22 points, hitting 4-of-8 three pointers.
Taylor Janowicz added 13 points for WBU, which fell to 4-6 on the season and 0-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Junior point guard Tommie Sanders put in 10 points and had a team-high five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jason Griffin also hit the double figure mark with 10 points.
Janowicz scored the game's first bucket, and then Johnny Terra and Kakad each hit a trey before the Evangels ever got on the scoreboard. Janowicz later made it 10-5 with 14:30 left in the half.
After Kakad's three made it 18-17 at the midway point, Mid-America scored nine straight. MACU led 47-34 at the half and outscored the Pioneers 12-5 to begin the second period to take control.
Wayland will look to get their first conference win of the season on Monday when they take on the Stars of Oklahoma City at 5 p.m. at Abe Lemons Arena.
