OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- The Wayland Baptist women's wrestling team won its first dual in school history on Saturday. The Pioneers defeated Lindenwood University's Gold team 21-13.
The WBU women took two of the first three matches against the LU Gold as Ofelia Valdez and Nalley Carrillo won by forfeit at 48kg and 55kg respectively.
After Samantha Gonzales picked up a point in a 6-0, 8-7 loss at 51kg, Adrianna Rivas earned a pin in the 63kg class 1:01 into the first period to make it 16-8, and Chelsie McMillion wrapped things up for the Pioneers at 72kg with a pin at the 1:18 mark.
In duals earlier in the day, Wayland lost to King (Tenn.) 41-1 and to Lindenwood 27-4. Valdez took the decision of the first match against Lindenwood, 2-0 and 3-1. Carrillo got the point against King in a 5-4, 3-1 loss, and gained another in a 4-0, 1-2, 3-1 loss against Lindenwood.
The Pioneers travel to Marshall, Mo. next weekend where they will compete in the Missouri Valley Open.
