OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- Wayland Baptist sophomore Nalley Carrillo got wins in all four of her matches, and four others also recorded victories in women's wrestling action on Saturday at Oklahoma City University's Abe Lemons Arena. As a team, the Pioneers went 0-4 in the duals against Missouri Valley and Jamestown College.
In the first dual against Missouri Valley in which WBU fell 23-10, WBU sophomore Ofelia Valdez picked up a 3-3, 2-0 decision in the 48-kg class. Carrillo followed with a forfeit win in the 51-kg division.
Freshmen Lorraine Herrerra and Chelsie McMillion earned a point each in the dual. Herrera lost by decision (1-0, 1-2, 7-2) in the 72-kg class, while McMillion lost a 6-0, 4-3 decision in the 80-kg division.
Against Jamestown, the Pioneers fell 36-8, but Carrillo picked up five points on a pin just 50 seconds into her match. In the 59-kg class, Jeneshia Woods earned a point in a 3-3, 3-1 loss by decision, as did Herrera (3-1, 8-1) and McMillion (3-1, 2-0).
The third dual of the day put the WBU women against the Missouri Valley Orange team. MVC narrowly walked away with a 19-16 win. Freshman Tarah Brewer got her first collegiate win with a pin at the 1:31 mark in the first period of the 67-kg class.
Carrillo and McMillion each picked up five points in forfeit wins, while Jeneshia Woods earned a point for the Pioneers with a 2-3, 4-0, 2-1 loss by decision.
Against the Jamestown Orange team, WBU dropped a 24-18 verdict. Carrillo got her second pin of the day, 38 seconds into the second period after winning the first period 3-0. Woods also produced her first collegiate win with a pin at 2:26 in the second period.
Brewer won her second match of the day, this one by forfeit. Other Wayland points were picked up by Valdez, who lost a very close match by decision, 0-1, 1-1, 1-1, and McMillion, who fell by decision, 4-0, 3-1.
The Pioneer women will make their home debut on Oct. 21 during the Blue/Gold rankings.
