WBU Men Improve to 4-0

The Wayland Baptist Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the season with a 60-50 win over Dallas Christian College on Friday evening at Hutcherson Center.

George Williams led the Pioneers with 15 points. Bobby Watkins posted his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Rodrigo Silva added 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never trailed in the game, despite shooting just 41.5 percent from the field.

Dallas Christian, which hit only 35 percent of their field goal attempts, stayed within striking distance throughout the game, never trailing by more than 13, which was the margin at the half. In the second period, the Crusaders narrowed the gap to seven with just under eight minutes left on the clock, but Williams hit his only three of the contest a minute later to give the Pioneers the double-digit advantage once again.

There were 50 fouls called in the contest and 55 trips made to the free throw line. WBU hit 24 of its 32 attempts, while the Crusaders downed 18 of 23.

Wayland won the battle of the boards, 36-24, and converted 14 offensive rebounds into 18 points. The Pioneers also outscored the visitors 26-10 in the paint.

The Pioneers and Crusaders meet again on Monday in Dallas. Game time is set for 7 pm.
