Another Road Loss for the Pioneers

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- Wayland Baptist dropped an 82-62 decision at Mid-America Christian in collegiate men's basketball on Saturday. George Williams scored a game-high 21 points for the Pioneers, who remain winless in Sooner Athletic Conference action with a 0-4 mark.

Statistically, the game was much closer than the score indicated - except in two categories. The Evangels outscored Wayland 30-14 at the free throw line and scored 16 points off 27 Pioneer turnovers.

In all, MACU made 39 trips to the charity stripe, 16 more than the Pioneers. The Oklahoma school turned the ball over nine fewer times than Wayland, who got just eight points off the 18 Evangel miscues.

WBU shot 42 percent from the field, compared to 36 percent for MACU. The Pioneers won the battle in the paint, 28-24. They had just three fewer rebounds, 42-39, but let their opponents score 11 second chance points on 14 offensive boards. Wayland had six offensive boards leading to four points.

Williams was the only Pioneer to hit the double figure mark in scoring. Josh Teague, who had three treys, got nine points. Rodrigo Silva had a team-high nine rebounds, and C'Jamarion Leashore handed out four assists.

Four Evangels reached the double figure mark in scoring, led by Brandon Williams with 17.

The 5-4 Pioneers have one more game scheduled before the Christmas break. They will host the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7 pm.
