The Pioneer soccer teams opened Sooner Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon at Hilliard Field and both the women's and men's teams were shutout by Oklahoma Baptist. The women's game ended up 4-0, while the men were blanked 8-0.
The Lady Bison scored two goals in each half to win their fourth game of the season. They limited Wayland to just three shots, all in the first period. Ashley Woodall, Emarie Holland and Kathleen Stewart all put their shots on goal, but OBU goalkeeper Sarah Robinson made the save each time.
WBU goalkeeper Samantha Garcia was the busiest person on the field. The junior from Brownwood, Tex. saw 29 shots in the game. She made four saves in the first and six in the second period.
OBU's Kirsten Morrow had the hat-trick, scoring the first three goals of the contest. The Lady Bison improved to 4-3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Pioneer women fell to 2-5 and 0-1.
In the men's game, the Bison scored three of their eight goals on penalty kicks, while another went in as a result of a direct kick. The visitors outshot the Pioneers 23-6. Junior Cody McClary forced saves on both his shots to record the only two shots on goal for Wayland.
WBU was called for 16 fouls in the game, compared to ten for the Bison, who are now 6-1 on the season. The Wayland men dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in SAC play.
