OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- The Pioneer men's soccer team shutout Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon 1-0 at Evangel Field. It was the third shutout of the season for freshman goalkeeper John- Ramses Thomas, who turned aside all six shots on goal he faced.
After a scoreless first period, Wayland finally got on the board with almost eight minutes gone in the second half on a goal by Cristhian Ospina. It was the third goal of the season from the junior transfer from Miami, Fla.
Ospina had a team-high five shots on the game with three forcing saves. MACU outshot the Pioneers 16-14, but could not get one by Thomas. Seven of WBU's 14 shots were on goal.
Wayland head coach Jamath Shoffner, whose team improves to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play, said that although the game wasn't the prettiest, his team still found a way to win.
"Anytime you can find a way to win a conference game on the road, it is a good result. Now we have to prepare for our weekend at home."
First up for the Pioneers at Hilliard Field is a contest against Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Oklahoma City is next up on Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
