The Pioneer volleyball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a three-set sweep of John Brown University Friday evening at Hutcherson Center. WBU, which lost a 3-1 decision at JBU last month, took Friday's match by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-18.
Kate Trejos celebrated her birthday with a double-double. The senior outside hitter recorded a match-high 17 kills and added 16 digs. Teammate Natasha Giacomazzi, a sophomore setter, also posted a double-double with 30 assists and 17 digs.
Two other Pioneers hit the double digit mark in digs, as well. Senior Kimberli Harger had 12 and junior libero Jaharys Archilla, in her first extended action of the season, got 10.
Tatiana Gonzalez contributed 10 kills and was in on four blocks, including three solo. Alissa (Mitchell) Hodgson had three of the Pioneer's six service aces.
With the win the Wayland netters improve to 16-11 overall and move ahead of the Golden Eagles into fourth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with a 5-4 record. JBU drops to 16-12 on the season and 4-5 in SAC play.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against Mid-America Christian University.
