Box Score Senior guard Josh Teague saved his best for last, scoring a career-high 17 points in a 75-69 victory over John Brown in the final game of the 2010-11 season at Hutcherson Center on Saturday.
The Wayland men played arguably their best game of the year in front of large Homecoming crowd. They connected on 50 percent of their shots, made a season-high ten three-pointers, and turned the ball over a season-low six times.
The Pioneers took a narrow one-point lead into the dressing room at the intermission, but scored the first eight points of the second half. Teague opened the scoring with a trey. Johnny Terra nailed down a long-range missile of his own on the next WBU possession, and Bobby Watkins followed with a dunk to make it 43-34.
Every time the Eagles would make a run at getting back in the game, the Wayland would answer with a three. JBU cut it to four, 46-42 with 14:42 left when Teague hit his third three-pointer, and then he and Terra went back-to-back again nine minutes later after the Eagles had closed to within five, 60-55.
Joining Teague in double figures was junior George Williams with 15, freshman Nathan Harbour with 14, and junior Johnny Terra with 11. Watkins had a team-high nine rebounds, and C'Jamarion Leashore handed out six assists.
Sam Bartlett scored a game-high 19 points to lead JBU, which actually shot better than the Pioneers, hitting 54.5 percent from the field.
The big difference in the game came in the turnover column. WBU converted 12 Eagle turnovers into 20 points, while the visitors got just one point off the six Pioneer miscues. The Wayland men also won the battle of the boards, 33-26. Fifteen of those 33 rebounds came on the offensive end, resulting in 18 second chance points.
The Pioneers conclude their season with a record of 9-20 overall and 4-18 in conference play.
