Box Score CHICKASHA, Okla. --- Less than 24 hours after playing a strong game against the NAIA's #12 team, the Wayland men's basketball team struggled against the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma, dropping a 70-53 decision.
In Saturday's game at the USAO Fieldhouse, the Pioneers shot 38 percent from the field and hit just two of their seven three-point attempts. The Drovers hit 57 percent of their field goal attempts and nailed down 11 of their 21 shots from beyond the arch.
WBU scored the first five points of the game on a trey by Johnny Terra and a shot in the paint by Rodrigo Silva. USAO came roaring back, hitting three-pointers on three of its next four possessions to take the lead.
The Drovers went into the dressing room at the intermission up by six. Wayland stayed within striking distance until the game's final five minutes when USAO extended a ten point lead to 19.
Silva was the only WBU player to hit the double digit mark in scoring with 19 points. The junior center had a team-high four rebounds. Freshman Nathan Harbour added nine points, and Bobby Watkins contributed five assists.
Sahlih Butts posted a double-double for the Drovers, who improved to 9-13 and 5-11, with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Wayland, which is now 7-16 overall and 2-14 in conference play, return home this week for games against Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday and St. Gregory's on Saturday.
