Pioneer Women Shutout by Lady Rams

FT. WORTH, Texas --- One week into the soccer season, the Wayland Baptist women have been involved in two 1-0 decisions. WBU won the first last week against Southwestern Assemblies of God, butlost onSaturday nightagainst Texas Wesleyan University.

The Lady Rams scored the lone goal of the contest six minutes in on a shot from the box by Whitney Chappell. It is the only shot that has gotten by junior goalkeeper Courtney Chambers in her first two collegiate outings in the net.

WBU put four of their 11 shots on goal in the second half, but couldn't get the ball past TWU goalie Aubree Gallego.

Head coach Shiloh Posey said that despite getting off to a slow start, his team played real well after the intermission.

"I don't know if it was the heat and humidity or what the first half, but the effort was much improved in the second period. We got off some good shots and just couldn't get to the back of the net."

Newcomer Zoe Benson forced two saves less than a minute apart about 14 minutes into thelastperiod. In the game's final five minutes, sophomore Emarie Holland had a shot blocked from close left wing, and freshman Sarah Castro had an opportunity sail wide left at the 88:14 mark.

Benson led the Pioneer women with six shots in 90 minutes of action. Freshman Annysa Plata had three shots, two of which were on goal.

TWU ended up with 17 shots for the game, seven of which were saved by Chambers. Wayland had 15 shots, five of which were saved by Gallego.

WBU stays in the Metroplex for a Monday match-up with Dallas Christian College at 3 p.m. The Pioneers will make their home debut on Labor Day when they face Northwood University at 1 p.m. at Hilliard Field.
