Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- Wayland Baptist junior guard TJ Jacobs missed a three-pointer as time expired to give the Oklahoma City Stars a 74-72 win over the Pioneers Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
The WBU men trailed 63-57 with just over eight minutes remaining. Marquis Green hit a three-pointer with 5:26 on the clock to cap a 10-0 Pioneer run that gave the Pioneers a 67-63 lead. The Stars came out of a timeout and scored five straight to take a one point advantage with two and a half minutes left in the contest.
The two teams traded three-point baskets, Jamie Eisinger for the Pioneers and Tim Morton for the Stars, and then Wayland center Robert Curtis put in a lay-up to give the Pioneers a 72-71 lead at the 1:36 mark.
Oklahoma City regained the lead on two free throws by Orlan Jackman after Isaiah Jackson committed his fifth foul with 1:19 remaining.
A turnover and a missed jumper by George Williams on Wayland's next two possessions led to a trip to the free throw line by Morton who hit one of his two attempts with 11 seconds left.
The Stars had two fouls to give before the Pioneers would be in the bonus, and they used one of them with five seconds to go.
Jacobs led the Wayland men with 19 points. Williams added 13 and Curtis put up a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
WBU falls to 8-9 on the season and 2-7 in conference play. Oklahoma City is now 9-5 overall and 6-4 in SAC action. The Pioneers return home for four straight conference games beginning with John Brown on Thursday evening.
