Pioneers drop season-opener to Northern New Mexico

Box Score ESPANOLA, N.M. – The Wayland Baptist Pioneer basketball team dropped its season-opener here Tuesday to Northern New Mexico College, 62-59.
 
Wayland had a chance to tie it at the buzzer, but Travis Payton's 3-pointer missed.
 
Northern New Mexico improved to 1-2 on the season. No other information was immediately available.
 
Wayland next plays Nov. 5 in Fort Worth against Texas Wesleyan University. The Pioneers make their home debut at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 against Barclay College (Kan.).
