Pioneers fall to No. 17 Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH -- Wayland Baptist fell to 17th-ranked Texas Wesleyan, 81-65, in men's non-conference college basketball action here Monday night.
 
The Pioneers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Rams improve to 2-0. TWU defeated Lubbock Christian in its opener on Nov. 1, 77-74.
 
Wayland makes its home debut at 7 p.m. Friday against Barclay College (Kan.).

Texas Wesleyan scored twice as many points as Wayland at the free-throw line, hitting 26-of-41 (63 percent) foul shots compared to the Pioneers' 13-of-21 (62 percent). The Rams also shined from 3-point range, hitting 11-of-21 (52 percent) versus the Pioneers' 4-of-23 (17 percent).

Tanner Hazelbaker led WBU with 12 points, followed by Reggie Fondren with 11 and Juhreece Thompson with 10. Fondren's seven rebounds paced the team, which was outrebounded 39-25.

Texas Wesleyan had five players in double figures, led by Dallas Jones' 19 points.

Wayland trailed 38-29 at halftime.
 
Texas Wesleyan will join Wayland in the Sooner Athletic Conference beginning next season.
