Box Score ALVA, Okla. --- Northwestern Oklahoma State came back from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat the Wayland Baptist men, 87-83. With the win, the Rangers improve to 11-12 overall and 8-8 in conference play, while the Pioneers fall to 10-13 and 4-11.
WBU held a 53-46 advantage with 15:27 left in the second period, but NWOSU came back with a 9-2 run to tie it at 55. Wayland scored the next five points, capped by Isaiah Jackson's jumper with 11:53 on the clock.
The Rangers stormed back, outscoring the Pioneers 22-9 over the next seven minutes to take control of the contest.
Five Pioneers scored in double-digits, led by TJ Jacobs with 20 points. The junior guard drained four of his seven three-point attempts. Jamie Eisinger had 14 points, George Williams and Jackson added 11 each, and Robert Curtis put in 10.
Williams had eight boards and Eisinger handed out a game-high six assists.
The Rangers were led by Jonathan Freemyer with 22 points and Marshall Bell with 21.
Both teams shot 49 percent from the field and had 35 rebounds each. WBU hit on 6-of-18 from beyond the arch, while NWOSU was 9-of-22. The Pioneers got 12 more points inside than did the Rangers (36-24), but the big difference came at the free throw line, where the Rangers converted 24 of their 34 free throw attempts (72.7%), while the Pioneers were good on just 13 of their 20 trips (65%) to the charity stripe.
Wayland returns home to take on Oklahoma City on Thursday and Mid-America Christian on Saturday.
