Wayland Baptist will host the Pioneer Classic this weekend as WBU gears up for the start of Sooner Athletic Conference play for the second time this season.
The Pioneers (7-1) will take on Texas Lutheran at 3 p.m. Saturday followed by a game against Dallas Christian at 3 p.m. Sunday. Those contests will be preceded by a match-up between Texas Lutheran and Dallas Christian at 6 p.m. Friday.
No admission will be charged to any of the games.
Wayland and Dallas Christian will meet for the second time in two weeks after the teams squared off at McMurry University in Abilene on Dec. 16. The Pioneers won, 95-84, behind
Barry Johnson's seven 3-pointers and 35 points.
Friday's game also will be the second meeting this season between Texas Lutheran and Dallas Christian. They first squared off on Dec. 2 in Dallas with TLU winning, 69-67. The teams also were scheduled to meet on Dec. 7 in Seguin, but that game was postponed.
That game was added to the Pioneers' schedule after Wayland's SAC-opening road games against John Brown University and St. Gregory's University in early December were postponed due to inclement weather.Â
Now, the Pioneers and Flying Queens (3-6) are set to tip off conference play on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Oklahoma City University, followed by games against league newcomer Southwestern Christian in OKC on Saturday, Jan. 4.
