Ty Harrelson to be recognized Saturday

Former Wayland Baptist basketball player Ty Harrelson will be recognized on two fronts prior to the Pioneers' game against No. 18 Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon.

Harrelson was part of last year's induction class into the WBU Athletics Hall of Honor, but he was unable to attend the October ceremony due to work commitments in Australia where he serves as player/coach of a professional basketball team.

Harrelson will receive his Hall of Honor plaque prior to the Pioneers' 3 p.m. game Saturday in Hutcherson Center. Following that presentation, Harrelson will be recognized for providing the lead gift for the recent renovation of the Pioneers' locker room.

Harrelson played for the Pioneers for two seasons from 2001-03. He set school records for free throw percentage in a season (88.8%), most assists in a game (15) and best assist average per game (6.8) and became the Pioneers' first-ever first-team NAIA All-American. He currently serves as player/head coach for the South West Slammers in Western Australia.
