FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Wayland Baptist won two of three matches on the first day of the NWCA Women's National Duals here Friday.
The 10th-ranked Pioneers opened the 14-team, two-day competition by edging No. 11 Missouri Valley College, 24-22. WBU then fell to second-ranked Oklahoma City, 33-11, before prevailing over No. 16 Life (Ga.), 30-14.
Wayland won six of 10 matches against Missouri Valley, two against OCU, and seven over Life.
Two Pioneers won all three of their matches:
Tam Tillman in the 123-pound division and Mahiela Magee in 170s. Magee took her first two matches by technical fall and her last match by fall, while Tillman won twice by technical fall and once by decision.
Wayland (8-8) continues the competition at 9 a.m. Saturday against No. 3 Lindenwood (Mo.). The winner will wrestle for fifth place while the loser goes for seventh place at 1 p.m. against either No. 9 Missouri Baptist or No. 10 Cumberlands (Ky.).
